N ot so long ago, we were talking about this new fad called social media. Should we be using it? What connection does it have to business? Isn't it all just a big distraction? Several short years later, I think we're all in agreement that social media has proven itself as a viable marketing strategy when used correctly. Yet, according to RISMedia's latest research report, the majority of real estate professionals (57 percent) surveyed described social media as a "time suck" as opposed to "time well spent." Why the disconnect? As with any effective marketing strategy, it boils down to efficiency. While social media can be very valuable for a host of reasons—brand building, positioning you as a credible resource, strengthening relationships, etc.—it can take a lot of time if you don't have a system in place. Yet it's essential to your business—to all businesses these days. Let's face it: More and more Americans are getting their news and staying connected to the world through social media. Therefore, using social media correctly provides an unmatched opportunity to influence prospects, let people know who you are, and put your skills in the spotlight. So, the question is, how do we get our arms around social media to make it a manageable, business-building tool? Take a look at the full results of our survey and analysis on page 46 and see how your peers are tackling the challenge. One option is to consider an outside resource to help you devise and maintain a social media strategy. RISMedia's ACE (Automated Content Engagement) program, for example, is designed to cover all the bases by automatically posting great content—infographics, articles, videos—to your social media pages, branded to you for additional exposure and credibility.
