Today's Consumers: The New Rules of Engagem Winning with—and for— Consumers NAR CEO Dale Stinton and me at last month's Rally to Protect the American Dream in Washington, D.C. Monument provided the perfect backdrop for last month's inspirational and motivational Rally to Protect the American Dream. As I stood among the more than 13,000 REALTORS® from across the country who came to Washington, D.C. that day, the message was A quite clear: homeownership matters. We may be hearing more and more about the rise of the rental market, but the fact remains that the vast majority of those renters aspire to become homeowners, sooner rather than later. This is statistically documented in the recently released Homebuyer Poll from TD Bank, which reveals that the majority (84 percent) of today's younger renting generation (ages 18-34) intend to buy a home. More than half of the consumers polled say homeownership is a vital component to defining the American Dream. However, despite all this knowledge and positivity, today's consumer can be difficult to engage and connect with. Deluged with more information than ever before, consumers must be approached in a variety of new ways. Please read our insightful feature article, "The New Rules of Engagement," on page 64. Reaching consumers in today's world takes a whole new mindset and a new set of tools. I encourage you to also take a look at this month's cover story on page 38.
