W hile you're probably well aware of the many legisla- tive and regulatory issues affecting the housing industry, you may not be aware that there are those who go to bat for us—brokers, agents and real estate consum- ers—every day: the National Association of REALTORS® Leadership Team. While NAR provides a wide variety of benefts for its members, perhaps the greatest role NAR plays is its ongo- ing and unyielding effort to preserve the rights of current and would-be homeowners, which, in turn, supports the livelihoods of all real estate professionals. When it comes to NAR's advocacy efforts, as 2014 NAR President Steve Brown says, "What benefts one, had better beneft all." This month's cover story (page 82) takes an in-depth look at the advocacy efforts of Brown, 2014 President-Elect Chris Polychron, and the entire NAR Leadership Team. You'll see that these leaders are not talking heads, but rather, boots-on-the-ground advocates confronting those lawmakers whose decisions stand to drastically alter the dream of homeownership. From preserving tax incen- tives to battling the 3-percent cap, Brown, Polychron and their team are true fghters—fghting for what's right for consumers and what's right for the brokers and agents who serve them. The timing of this cover story coincides perfectly with the recently renamed REALTOR® Party & Trade Expo taking place in Washington, D.C., May 12–17. NAR has been using the term, "The REALTOR® Party," for many years now to describe its united, bipartisan REALTOR® membership. Rebranding the midyear event with this same term truly underscores the power of NAR and its members to effect change in Washington. Those of us who attended the REALTOR® Rally in front of the Washington Monument a few years back witnessed the memorable impact of the REALTOR® Party frst-hand. While in Washington, we invite you to attend RISMedia's Power Broker Forum, "Power Broker Strategies for Increas- ing Productivity and Proft." Our esteemed panel of brokers will be sharing their game plans for increasing proftability by enhancing the consumer experience. Join us at the Marriott Wardman on Thursday, May 15, from 3:30–5:00 p.m. and bring your questions and comments to share. Wishing you continued success, John E.
